Privacy Policy

Overview

FingerDrumPad (the "App") respects your privacy. The App does not collect personally identifiable information. Crash reporting is off by default and only enabled when you explicitly opt in. This policy describes the types of data the App handles and how they are used.

Data we collect

  • Crash data — stack traces, device model, and iOS version when the App crashes (via Firebase Crashlytics, sent only if you have given consent).
  • Diagnostic data — records of hangs, CPU exceptions, and disk write exceptions (via Apple MetricKit, stored locally on-device only).
  • App logs — error and warning histories (via OSLog, retained on-device only).
  • App state — selected kit name, active AUv3 plugin names, and sound source count (included only when you generate a diagnostics report).
  • User settings — tutorial progress, practice history (scores, ranks, combos, timing statistics, streaks, weekly summaries), kits, Sequencer patterns, templates, and calibration settings. All stored locally on your device.

This data never leaves your device unless (a) you have opted into crash reporting, in which case anonymous crash data is sent as described above, or (b) you explicitly export a diagnostics report or a MIDI/JSON file.

In-App Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. The App never sees your Apple ID, payment method, or full transaction details; it only receives a local entitlement flag from StoreKit indicating whether Pro features are unlocked. Apple handles all billing, receipts, and refunds according to its own privacy policy.

Data we do not collect

  • Personal information such as name, email address, or phone number
  • Location information
  • Contacts, photos, or calendar data
  • Information about other apps on your device
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
  • User behavior analytics (Google Analytics or similar services are not used)

How data is stored

All practice data, kits, settings, app logs, and MetricKit diagnostics live in the app's on-device storage sandbox. They are included in your standard device backups (iCloud or Finder/iTunes) as part of a full device backup, but they are not transmitted to us. Uninstalling the app removes this data from the device.

Permissions used

  • Music library — only accessed when you choose a song to play along with. FingerDrumPad reads audio for playback; it does not upload or share your songs.
  • Audio — used to play pad sounds and, optionally, to send audio to AUv3 instrument plugins you select.
  • Haptics — used for tap feedback, when enabled.
  • File import — used only when you import an SF2 SoundFont or other audio file.

Crash reporting & diagnostics

Crash reporting uses Firebase Crashlytics and is disabled by default (firebase_crashlytics_collection_enabled = NO in Info.plist). On first launch (or after onboarding for new users), a one-time dialog asks for your consent. You can change your choice at any time via Settings → Diagnostics → Anonymous Crash Reporting.

When enabled, Crashlytics receives anonymous crash data — stack traces, device model, OS version, and an instance ID — to help identify and fix bugs. FirebaseAnalytics is intentionally not included, so there is no IDFA collection and no App Tracking Transparency prompt.

The in-app Diagnostics screen lets you generate a JSON report of the last 24 hours of app logs (OSLog), MetricKit diagnostic summaries, an app-state snapshot (selected kit, sound source count, AUv3 plugin names), and device info. The report is written to a temporary file and shared only when you tap Share Report. A privacy section in the UI lists exactly what is and isn't collected before you generate or share anything.

Third-party services

The App uses Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google LLC) for crash analysis, but only when you have given consent. When a crash occurs, Crashlytics sends anonymous diagnostic data to Google servers. The data sent includes crash stack traces, device model, OS version, and an instance ID, but does not include personally identifiable information. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

AUv3 plugins you choose to load run as extensions on your device and are governed by their own developers' privacy practices.

Your choices

  • You can choose to allow or deny crash report submission via the dialog shown on first launch.
  • You can toggle submission on or off at any time from Settings → Diagnostics.
  • The default is off. No data is sent until you give consent.
  • The diagnostics export feature outputs data to a file only when you explicitly initiate it. No automatic transmission occurs.

Data retention

App logs and diagnostic data are stored on-device only and are deleted when the App is uninstalled. Crash data sent to Crashlytics is managed according to the Firebase Crashlytics data retention policy (typically 90 days).

Children's privacy

FingerDrumPad is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Because the app collects no personal data in the first place, no special age-gating is required.

Changes to this policy

If we add features that change how data is handled, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, we'll also note them in the app's release notes.
